Webb outduels Peavy, Arizona wins 2-1 (AP)

In Johnny Dawkins, Stanford found a respected coach from another storied program -- certainly a favorable mix in the eyes of athletic director Bob Bowlsby. Dawkins, a longtime assistant coach at Duke under Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski, has been hired as the Cardinal's new coach. He replaces Pac-10 Coach of the Year Trent Johnson, who left for LSU earlier this month.

Michael Jordan took a chance on a young, inexperienced coach and it didn't work. Sam Vincent was fired Saturday after one turmoil-filled, non-playoff season running the Charlotte Bobcats. Vincent's dismissal was only minutes old when speculation turned to whether Jordan, the Bobcats' part-owner with the final say on all basketball decisions, would take a 180-degree turn with his next hire.

Indiana to name Marquette's Crean coach (AP)

Indiana is turning to Tom Crean to bring respectability back to Hoosiers. A couple dozen wins each year would help, too. After a tumultuous season and turbulent coaching search, the Hoosiers finally hired Crean on Tuesday as what they hope will be a long-term replacement for Kelvin Sampson. Sampson resigned in February amid a phone-call scandal that included five major allegations from the NCAA.
